Pianos should be tuned regularly, generally once a year is optimum. A tuning takes approximately two hours. This is done by ear so I do rely on having a quiet environment to work in.
When ever possible the instrument will be tuned as close or to the correct pitch.

Do you tune by ear or use a meter? I have always tuned by ear. It still amazes me how the human ear can be so accurately trained.
